Mets and Pirates fans brawl in stands during Amazins’ blowout loss

The Mets might’ve gone down without much of a whimper Friday night, but the fans in the stands at PNC Park put up a fight — literally.

As the Mets got throttled by the Pirates in a 14-7 blowout in which the pitching and defense looked shaky, fans of both teams appeared to get into a scrap in the stands.

In a video posted to Twitter, fans of both teams along the stadium’s first-base line are seen pushing, shoving and hitting each other, all while the action is still happening on the field with the Mets at the plate.

As the melee continued, a fan in a black Mets jersey — who was in the early part of the fight — circled back and came from a row behind where the skirmish was happening and jumped back into the fray with a right-handed punch.

After about 30 seconds into the video, stadium security finally appeared to stop the brouhaha for good.

It’s unclear what prompted the fight.

Multiple people were involved in the fight.
The skirmish happened as the game was still happening on the field.

It was an ugly scene off the field, and for the Mets, it wasn’t much prettier on it.

The Mets were tied with the Pirates heading into the bottom of the third but imploded when they made two costly errors — from Francisco Lindor and Eduardo Escobar — and gave up five runs.

The bullpen wasn’t much better as New York pitching allowed 17 hits and issued four walks.

With the loss, the Mets are now 30-34 and are 9 1/2 games back of the NL East-leading Braves.
