'Multiple casualties' reported after two planes collide at California airport, officials say

(CNN)Authorities said Thursday afternoon after two planes crashed in mid-air at the City Fire Department's Watsonville Municipal Airport. , confirmed that there were "multiple casualties". Section chief Rudy Lopez told CNN.

A single-engine Cessna 152 and a twin-engine Cessna 340 collided during their final descent into the airport, according to a Federal Aviation Administration statement. There was one person on board the Cessna 152 and two on the Cessna 340, the FAA said in a statement.

The city's Twitter post said the report was made before 3:00 pm, adding that "multiple agencies" were reporting the incident.
