Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman expected back to work in mid-April

Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, who has been undergoing treatment for clinical depression, is expected to return to work in about three weeks, a person close to the lawmaker said Wednesday.

The anonymous source privy to Fetterman’s plan told the Associated Press the freshman Democrat will return to DC the week of April 17.

Fetterman, who suffered a stroke last May, has been at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center since Feb. 15 for depression treatment.

He sought care after aides said the 53-year-old was withdrawn, and didn’t want to eat or talk about work.

With a slim majority in the Senate for Democrats, 51-49, Fetterman’s vote could be crucial to move some nominations.

Since his stroke, he’s faced lingering problems speaking and processing the speech he hears.

Fetterman is not the only senator on the sidelines at the moment.

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat, has been out for several weeks as she recovers from shingles.

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell has also been away from DC and at home in Kentucky as he recovers from a fall.

He could also return the week of April 17.
