Sarah Hyland Threatened To Leave Husband Wells Adams at the Altar If He Didn’t Cry

Sarah Hyland threatened to leave Wells Adams at the altar if he didn’t get emotional upon her wedding entrance.

The actor appeared on the Nov. 28 broadcast of The Kelly Clarkson Show to promote her upcoming television series Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, but first, the host had some questions about her recent nuptials.

Hyland shared a few big revelations: her wedding dress had pockets, her Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson stepped in to ordain her wedding after Ty Burrell dropped out due to a last-minute emergency, and she demanded actual tears from her then-fiancé as she walked down the aisle.

“I actually, specifically, verbatim said: ‘If I don’t see you crying when I walk down the aisle, I’m turning around,’” recalled Hyland.

The two laughed before Clarkson showed a picture of Adams crying as she walked down the aisle, exclaiming, “And he did!”

The actor affectionately echoed, “He did cry!”

The couple wed in August, after getting engaged in July 2019. People reports that they met in 2016 while Adams was a contestant on The Bachelorette Season 12 and were first spotted together in 2017 on Halloween.

During her talk show appearance, Hyland also opened up about her new role in the Pitch Perfect spin-off, which takes place ten years after college graduation and follows Adam Devine’s Bumper Allen as he pursues his dream of becoming a famous singer. “I play Peter’s assistant,” Hyland told Clarkson. “And she’s this weird, quirky, bubbly – but very, very weird person.”

She continued to describe her character as “shy”, especially over her singing voice, which Hyland personally relates to.

After a playing clip of her performance, Clarkson told Hyland that her singing is “beautiful,” and, referencing her days on The Voice, said she would’ve “pressed [her] button”.

Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin premiered November 23, 2022 on Peacock.
