Serena Williams seeks redemption at Wimbledon this season afterretired in the first round of last year's championshipincrease.

The 40-year-old woman who won Wimbledon seven times ago said she still had in her mind how things ended in 2021.

"I felt like it was hard last year. I felt like I was injured all year long. Then I tore the hamstring. It was hard. Nobody wants to do that. So, in general, the whole experience was rough.

Wildcard entry Williams said he had decided to return to Wimbledon before the French Open, but it wasn't released until June 14th. ..Last week's doubles match in Eastbournemarked a return to competitive tennis after a long absence from the game.

"I didn't retire," Williams said. "I just needed to heal physically and mentally. To be honest, I had no plans. I didn't know when I would come back. I didn't know how to come back.

Williams' next major title is her 24th, connecting her with Margaret Court to win the highest lead ever. She will face Harmony Tan in the first round of Tuesday's match.

"Obviously Wimbledon was a great place and it worked," Williams said.
