Solange Knowles composes music for New York City Ballet

Solange Knowles is composing original music for the New York City Ballet, the singer announced on Tuesday. According to Playbill, the production will be accompanied by choreography by Gianna Reisen, who in 2017 was the youngest person ever to choreograph this ballet at the age of 18.

This work was part of the annual Fall Debut at Fashion Gala. September 28th at Lincoln Center. The event, chaired by Laverne Cox and Andy Cohen among others, honors actress Sarah Jessica Parker, who serves as Vice Chair of the Ballet. It will also be staged at five shows in May.

According to Knowles' mother, Tina Knowles Lawson, it was the third production by a woman and the first by a black woman since the ballet was founded in 1948. .

This was Knowles' first Grammy nomination and her first ever win.
