A Month After His Death, a Postage Stamp is Released in Honour of Benedict XVI

(ZENIT News / Vatican City, 06.02.2023).- The Postage Stamps Office of Vatican City State issued a commemorative stamp in honour of Benedict XVI one month after his going to the House of the Father. According to a press release, the issue of the postage stamp is “a sign of the fragrance of gratitude to the deceased Pontiff, as Pope Francis mentioned during the homily at the Funeral Mass on January 5.”

The postage stamp, valued at 1,25 euros, was issued on January 31. The photo on the postage stamp goes back to July 21, 2009 during Benedict XVI’s period of rest in Val d’Aosta. The print run is of 105,000 postage stamps, elaborated by the Vatican Postal Service.

According to the Italian press, the Republic of Italy will also issue a commemorative postage stamp in honour of Benedict XVI, although further details are yet to be made known.
