Pope Baptizes Child Admitted in the Same Hospital as He Was

Pope Francis spent Friday, March 31, also in the Gemelli Polyclinic of Rome, an important Catholic Hospital in the Italian capital.

According to the Holy See Press Office, “Thursday went well, with a normal clinical course. At night, the Holy Father had dinner, eating pizza with those attending to him these days of hospitalization, including doctors, nurses, assistants and personnel of the Gendarmerie.” On Friday morning, March 31, “after having breakfast, he read some newspapers and went back to work again.”

It was anticipated that he will return to the Vatican on Saturday, “after the results of the final tests that morning.”

This official reference implies as well the indirect communication — also from the same source –, that “Pope Francis will be present in Saint Peter’s Square for the Eucharistic Celebration on Palm Sunday, Passion of the Lord.”

Finally, the Holy See’s spokesman said that on Friday afternoon, the 31st. “His Holiness Pope Francis, after gathering in prayer in the Chapel of his private floor, received the Eucharist. Then, as already announced, he visited the Paediatric Oncology and Children’s Neuro-Surgery Unit and baptized little Michael Angel.” In fact, there is a video circulating of this moment of the Baptism (it can be seen at this link).

Then, “addressing the health care staff present, he dedicated a thought to all those that contribute to alleviate physical ills and the anguish of those who daily are called to give witness of the cross of Christ, and he thanked them for their abnegation and spirit of service. At the end of the visit, he returned to his room.”

After evaluating the results of the tests carried out today and the favourable clinical evolution, the medical team looking after His Holiness Pope Francis, confirmed the Holy Father’s discharge from the A. Gemelli Hospital on Saturday.
