Pope Francis Invokes Blessing of Strength and Perseverance Upon Indians Suffering from Monsoons

Pope Francis has sent condolences for the victims and families of the tragic monsoons and floods that killed and wounded many in India’s regions of Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat, in these days.

According to Reuters Aug. 11, the death toll has exceeded more than 150 and hundreds of thousands have been forced to evacuate.

A telegram sent in the Holy Father Francis’ name was sent by the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to the competent authorities.

In the telegram, Francis expressed that he was “deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of life in the monsoons of recent days in Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat.”

“Mindful of all those who have lost homes and livelihood,” the Holy Father sent his “heartfelt condolences” to the relatives of the deceased and injured.

While expressing his prayers for the relief efforts underway, Francis “willingly invokes the divine blessings of strength and perseverance” upon the nation.
