A Kuils River man allegedly killed his wife and daughter before turning the gun on himself in the early hours of Sunday morning, 25 September.

MAN ALLEGEDLY KILLS FAMILY THEN HIMSELF
The incident occurred in Old Nooiensfontein Road. The South African Police Service (SAPS) found the bodies of Hilton van Zyl, 48, his wife, Annastasia, 44 and daughter, Cassidy, 15.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi told The South African the trio had fatal gunshot wounds. “Kuils River police are investigating two counts of murder and an inquest,” he added.
Swartbooi was loath to confirm that the van Zyl family’s 20-something son survived the incident and managed to escape from the house, which has been reported in the news and discussed by residents.
Kuils River community activist, Dawn Roode, said “[The son] will need all our prayers and support. He survived the family tragedy because he got away from the scene where his father killed his mom and sister and then his father committed suicide.”
