“The continued load shedding is necessary due to the shortage of generation capacity as a result of persistently high levels of breakdowns, and to further replenish the emergency generation reserves,” said Eskom.

A generation unit each at Arnot, Kriel, Lethabo, Matla and two units at Camden Power Station returned to service since Tuesday night.
Three generation units – one each at Hendrina, Kendal and Majuba – were taken offline for repairs and there are a delay in returning a unit each at Kendal, Komati and Tutuka Power Stations to service.
As things stand, 6647MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance and a further 14 692MW is offline due to breakdowns.
