MTN8: Khama Khama Khama Khama Khama, Chameleon

The MTN8 semifinal on Sunday might come too soon for Khama Billiat, but coach Zwane might just be entertaining the idea of throwing him on at some stage.

For all of the criticism levelled at the 32-year-old attacker, Billiat is still a footballer with undeniable quality. His career has been defined by agility, speed, ball control and an ability to blend into his surroundings.

Khama the chameleon

A footballing chameleon in many ways, Billiat’s versatility has made him such an asset to so many coaches down the years. His ability to play anywhere in a front four makes him difficult to pick up. Yes, he’s struggling with poor form at Chiefs, but form is temporary and class is permanent. Throughout spells with Ajax, Sundowns and now Chiefs, Billiat has always been able to adapt to his surroundings.

Using Billiat in the MTN8 semifinal might be a risk worth taking

Chiefs boss Zwane has said that Billiat is doubtful but has trained. Whether this is all mind games we can’t know for sure, but it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see him at some stage against Usuthu. Big players can win big games and Billiat still falls into that category.

Will we see Khama in this year’s MTN8 semifinals? It would be a shame if the answer was no. We’ll have to wait until 15:30 on Sunday.
