The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the caretaker government has announced a meeting between Amir Khan Muttaqi and a representative of the far-right Freedom Party of Austria, along with a delegation, in Kabul.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, the acting Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban, wrote on his social media platform X, Muttaqi, discussed Afghanistan with senior members of the Freedom Party of Austria and a member of the European Union during this meeting.
During the meeting, Muttaqi addressed the Austrian delegation, stating, “I am pleased that you can see the situation in Afghanistan up close, and it will become clear to you that the situation in Afghanistan is very different from what is portrayed in the media.”
Since the Taliban took control of the country, they have implemented oppressive policies that severely limit women’s access to education and employment while restricting their participation in social activities.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the Muttaqi requested facilitation in consular services and the affairs of Afghan citizens in Vienna, Austria.
However, the Ministry, citing a member of the far-right Freedom Party of Austria named Johannes, said, “I regret that the current central government of Afghanistan, which has ensured global security and ended four decades of problems in Afghanistan, has not yet been recognized.”
It should be noted that members of the far-right Freedom Party of Austria have not made any statements regarding this meeting.
Since August 2021, the Taliban’s current regime has not gained recognition from the international community. However, some neighbouring countries like Iran, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan have maintained informal diplomatic relations with them.
