Taxi co-op to help schools beat the heat

The Bridgetown Port Taxi Co-Op Society is organising a mass giveback initiative to help students and teachers feel more comfortable at school.

Given the high temperatures affecting the island, the cooperative has decided to donate several fans to several public schools along the West Coast.

The first to benefit from this programme was St Alban’s Primary in Weston St James.

The outgoing president of the co-op Adrian Bayley told Barbados TODAY that this was one of the many community programmes the organisation was involved in.

“Over the last six months, there have been soaring temperatures in Barbados and we have taken this opportunity with the heat to give back. The co-op has always tried to assist and work with schools in Barbados. We took part in beach clean-ups and we repainted schools. We picked out St Alban’s as the first school to deliver these fans, but going forward we plan to work with most of the schools along the West Coast.

“Why? Most of our tours coming out of the Bridgetown Port normally traverse on this coastal line. So we are going to work with the schools in this catchment area. We hope that this donation can make the school more comfortable,” Bayley said.

Acting senior teacher Sandra Cumberbatch thanked the organisation for the donation on behalf of the staff and students.

“It has come in a time of need given the heat that we are experiencing. I am sure that these fans will be valuable in our classrooms. We thank you so much,” she said.

The presentation was made on Monday and five fans were donated.
