In a pre-election week thats getting more intense Joe Biden made comments about a Donald Trump rally that quickly turned into a major back-and-forth between political camps
The initial spark happened at an oct-27 rally where comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made offensive comments about different groups. His statements about Puerto Rico (which he called a floating island of garbage) and remarks about various ethnic groups caused immediate pushback
Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trumpʼs supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage
During a video-call with Voto Latino Biden tried to address the situation but his words created confusion: some heard him talk about “supporterʼs“ while others thought he meant “supporters“ which led to different interpretations of his message. The White Houses transcript showed an apostrophe - suggesting he meant just one person
Trump and his team quickly jumped on these words. At a north-carolina event‚ he told his followers that this shows what Biden really thinks of them - you cant lead America if you dont love Americans he said. Meanwhile Kamala Harris whoʼs running as dem candidate had to pause her own campaign message to address this situation
The polls show a very close race: Trump has 43% while Harris gets 44% (with just 5 days until nov-5 election). At the same rally Trump focused on immigration topics and talked about his plans to:
- Stop illegal border crossing
- Send back migrants he calls dangerous
- Change current immigration rules
The original rally that started this all was called an absolute-lovefest by Trump even though his campaign tried to distance itself from some remarks made there
