In a surprising turn of events a Russian state museum has put on display the artwork of Aisha Gaddafi‚ the daughter of Libyas former leader. The exhibit which started on 10/13/2024‚ is set to run for six weeks at the State Museum of Oriental Art in Moscow
Aisha Gaddafi‚ now 50 years old is the only biological daughter of Muammar Gaddafi who controlled Libya for over four decades. Her fatherʼs rule came to an end in 2011 when he was caught and killed during a rebellion backed by NATO
The exhibition showcases dozens of Aisha Gaddafiʼs creations including a particularly striking piece: a painting that depicts a crowd using smartphones to capture images of her fathers and brothers lifeless bodies. This artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the familys tragic history

Aisha Gaddafi left Libya about 13 years ago during the uprising. She experienced significant personal loss; her family claims that NATO airstrikes resulted in the deaths of her husband and two children. After giving birth to her fourth child in Algeria she found refuge in Oman
The exhibition was organized with help from Russias Foreign Ministry. Igor Spivak who chairs the Russian Mideast Society‚ mentioned that he suggested the idea to Aisha Gaddafi in Oman and she quickly agreed. He added “She knows that the people in Russia love her love her father and wants to see her art in Russia“
