At Howard University the mood shifted when Kamala Harris came to speak on wed morning - instead of the victory speech planned for election night. The campus quad was filled with music (including Curtis Mayfield and Beyoncé hits) that felt out-of-place for this not-so-happy event

The vice-presidential hopeful spoke about the phone call she made to accept defeat pointing out how peaceful power changes are key to US democracy. She made several key-points about moving forward:
- Getting ready for future democratic leadership
- Keeping campaign promises alive
- Standing up for womens health choices
- Building stronger political movement
The crowd showed most support when Harris talked about protecting womens rights. Sarah Dale (age 43) who works in government shared her worries: “This will have an impact on our macro world as well as me very personally“

The gathering turned from planned party into a wake-like atmosphere but Harris kept focus on hope - encouraging everyone to stay active in politics and keep working towards their goals
