Global military alliances shift: US defense plans need urgent update

Recent actions by North Korea and China show growing cooperation between US rivals. These events force Washington to re-think its single-war defense strategy as global threats become more connected

In late-2023 two big events changed how nations work together: North Korean soldiers showed up in Ukraine and a Chinese ship got caught maybe cutting data-cables in the Baltic Sea

The worlds trouble-makers are getting closer — RussiaChinaIran‚ and North Korea now help each other more than ever (which is making things harder for the US and its friends)

Since early-2022 weʼve seen lots of team-up moves:

  • North Korea giving shells to Russia
  • Iran sending drones to help in Ukraine
  • China helping Russia with money
  • Russia and North Korea making defense deals
  • Iran and Russia working on big agreements

For about 80 years‚ the US military was ready to fight in two places at once; but now its only set-up for one war at a time. This old-school thinking — which says problems stay in one place — dont work anymore

The US tried to split these countries apart: reaching out to Iran‚ talking with North Korea‚ being nice to Russia — but none of it worked. These countries stick together cause it helps them all: China gets stuff it needs‚ Russia gets military gear‚ while Iran and North Korea get big-country friends

The United States today only spends about half as much on defense as it did during the Cold War

Defense budget analysis

Some smart people say the US needs a three-region defense plan now; covering Asia-Pacific Europe and Middle East. Its gonna cost more money — but with good friends helping out its possible

Right now the US needs to wake up and see that these team-ups arent going away. Its time to make new plans that work for todays world‚ not yesterdays
