Last winter Iran made its intentions clear about expanding uranium-enrichment abilities: theyre planning to add more than 6‚000 new centrifuges to their facilities (which already have over 10k machines running)
At three different sites - two hidden underground and one above - Iran wants to set-up 32 clusters of machines; each having roughly 160 units. The most eye-catching part is their plan for a super-sized group of 1‚152 advanced IR-6 machines: this would be the biggest setup in the country
The move comes right after Iran got pushed back by the IAEA board - a group of 35 countries including USA‚ Britain France and Germany who passed some rules against them. Before that happened Iran tried to make a deal: they offered to put limits on their 60%-enriched uranium but didnt get the response they wanted
- IR-2m machines are now fully set up at Natanz underground spot
- 18 new IR-4 groups planned with 166 machines each
- Special pilot plant getting bigger cascades
- Fordow facility (built inside mountain) needs new inspection rules
The IAEA keeps track of whats happening: they checked on Nov-26-23 and saw that some new machines werent working yet. They say Iran needs different checking rules at Fordow now - where they make 60%-enriched uranium along with another place called Natanz
Even though Iran says its not making weapons western countries dont buy it; no other country has made 60%-pure uranium without also making bombs. The only new stuff will make 5% uranium for now but that can change fast
