Japan's "Shogun" sweeps Emmy Awards with 19 wins, highlighting the country's growing global influence. Government and public celebrate as Japanese entertainment, sports, and tourism gain international recognition.

Japan's entertainment industry has achieved a significant milestone, with the historical drama "Shogun" securing an unprecedented 19 Emmy Awards. This remarkable accomplishment has been met with enthusiasm from both the Japanese government and public, underscoring the nation's expanding influence on the global stage.

Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, the lead actors in "Shogun", were honored with acting awards for their performances. The series, set in feudal Japan, claimed the title of best drama, while another Japanese-themed production, "Blue Eye Samurai", was recognized as the best animated program.

The Japanese government has expressed its support for this achievement, with Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Moriya highlighting the series' authenticity, noting that 70% of the dialogue was in Japanese. Moriya also revealed plans to encourage Japanese creators to pursue international productions, announcing the formation of a committee to support the entertainment and content industries.

This Emmy success is part of a broader trend of Japan's rising prominence in various fields. In March, the film "Godzilla Minus One" received an Oscar for visual effects, while the crime series "Tokyo Vice" concluded its final season in April. In sports, baseball star Shohei Ohtani continues to make headlines with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Japan secured third place in the gold medal count at the recent Paris Olympics.

"We are an island country, and in the Edo period, everything was secluded. Now we're in a phase where we're actually trying to get people to understand why we do things or the way we did our traditions."

Naomi Mano, president of Tokyo-based travel agency Luxurique, stated:

The success of "Shogun" and similar productions has contributed to a surge in tourism, with visitors eager to experience aspects of Japan's rich history. The Edo period, which lasted from 1603 to 1867, has become a particular point of interest for many tourists.

Jake Adelstein, executive producer of "Tokyo Vice", suggested that the global appeal of Japanese dramas may stem from their portrayal of values such as honor and integrity, which resonate with international audiences.

The Emmy victories have sparked widespread celebration in Japan, with "Shogun" becoming a trending topic on social media. Many users expressed pride in the series' ability to convey Japanese culture to a global audience. Hiroyuki Sanada, who served as both lead actor and producer, received particular praise for his contributions to the project.

As Japan continues to make strides in entertainment, sports, and tourism, the success of "Shogun" at the Emmy Awards serves as a testament to the country's growing influence and the increasing global appreciation for its culture and history.
