Kathryn Hahn consulted a real-life witch for her role in Marvel's "Agatha All Along". The Disney+ miniseries, premiering September 18, explores witchcraft and female empowerment with a diverse cast and crew.

Kathryn Hahn has taken an unconventional approach to prepare for her role as Agatha Harkness in the upcoming Marvel miniseries "Agatha All Along". The actor revealed she met weekly with a self-described real-life witch to delve deeper into her character's essence.

"Her mission was to try to de-trope what we see as witches and really add the aspect of community and nature"

This unique preparation method aligns with the show's aim to present a fresh perspective on witchcraft, a concept that has existed in various forms since ancient times. The series, a spin-off from the Emmy-winning "WandaVision", is set to premiere its first two episodes on Disney+ on September 18, 2024.

"Agatha All Along" continues the story of Agatha Harkness, who finds herself trapped in Westview, New Jersey. The plot unfolds as Harkness escapes with the help of a young goth witch, embarking on a journey along the mythical "Witches' Road" to regain her powers and form a new coven.

Director Jac Schaeffer emphasized the importance of thorough research in crafting the show's narrative. The writing team delved into various aspects of witchcraft, including tarot reading, which dates back to the mid-15th century, and herbology, with roots in ancient Egyptian and Chinese civilizations.

The series boasts a predominantly female cast and crew, reflecting its focus on women in power. Debra Jo Rupp, reprising her role as Mrs. Hart, highlighted this aspect: "I mean directed by women, written by a woman, acted by women, and Joe (Joe Locke)."

Ali Ahn, part of the ensemble cast, praised the show's diverse representation of powerful women. "There's not just one way that you can embody power," Ahn stated, emphasizing the complexity and range of the characters.

The show also incorporates musical elements, including "The Ballad of the Witches' Road", a song performed by the coven. This aligns with Broadway tradition, represented by three-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone, who plays the witch Lilia Calderu.

LuPone, reflecting on her role, said, "You know, it becomes fated or destiny when you start to recognize, 'OK, I played a witch in 'Penny Dreadful' and now I'm playing another witch. I've done tarot in 'American Horror Story,' and now, it's this."

As "Agatha All Along" prepares to cast its spell on audiences, it promises to blend Marvel's magical universe with themes of empowerment, diversity, and the rich history of witchcraft lore.
