Levittown Man Charged with Drugging and Assaulting Multiple Women

A Pennsylvania man faces multiple charges for allegedly drugging and sexually assaulting women he met online. Authorities are seeking additional victims in the case that spans over a year.

In a disturbing case from Levittown, Pennsylvania, law enforcement officials have apprehended a man accused of drugging and sexually assaulting multiple women over a period exceeding one year. Andrew J. Gallo, a 40-year-old resident of this planned community in Bucks County, now faces serious legal consequences for his alleged actions.

Authorities have filed numerous charges against Gallo, including:

  • Five counts of rape by causing impairment
  • Four counts of strangulation
  • Drug and alcohol-related charges
  • Corruption of minors

The accused reportedly connected with his victims, ranging in age from 17 to 30, through an online platform designed to link women with financially generous men, commonly referred to as "sugar daddies." This concept, which originated in the early 20th century, has gained new traction in the digital age, with the first online "sugar daddy" dating website launched in 2006.

According to law enforcement, Gallo's modus operandi involved surreptitiously adding methamphetamines and other substances to his victims' drinks. This rendered them severely impaired and unable to provide consent for any activities, let alone sexual acts. The use of such tactics echoes the concerns that led to the passage of the Drug-Induced Rape Prevention and Punishment Act in 1996.

The victims reported experiencing a range of alarming effects from the drugs, including:

  • Extended periods of wakefulness lasting several days
  • Hallucinations
  • Physical bruising and illness

Some women sought medical attention following their encounters with Gallo. The severity of these cases underscores the importance of initiatives like the Violence Against Women Act, first passed in 1994, which aims to support victims of such crimes.

In addition to drugging, Gallo allegedly employed strangulation, a practice that has been recognized as a separate felony offense in many U.S. states since the 2000s due to its severity and correlation with escalating violence.

"He rendered them so impaired that they were unable to consent to anything, let alone sexual acts."

Bucks County District Attorney Jen Schorn stated

This case brings to light the ongoing challenges in combating sexual assault, despite increased awareness brought about by movements like #MeToo, which gained global attention in 2017. It also highlights the importance of understanding and promoting the concept of affirmative consent, which has become more prominent in public discourse over the past decade.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging any additional victims to come forward. The use of DNA evidence, which became more common in sexual assault cases in the late 1980s and early 1990s, may play a crucial role in building the case against Gallo.

At present, Gallo is being held on a $500,000 cash bail. Court records indicate that he has not yet secured legal representation. As this case unfolds, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and support systems to protect vulnerable individuals in both online and offline interactions.
