A Nigerian court postponed the trial of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan‚ whos been in custody for eight months. The delay comes after Gambaryan couldnt appear in court due to illness‚ despite recent bail denials

In Abuja Nigeria‚ a court has put off the trial of Tigran Gambaryan‚ a Binance executive‚ because he wasnt able to show up due to health problems. Gambaryan‚ whos from the US and works as the head of financial crime compliance at Binance has been locked up since 02/24 (about 8 months ago)

The authorities say hes mixed up in laundering more than $35 million‚ but both Gambaryan and Binance say thats not true. Judge Emeka Nwite decided to move the trial to 10/25/24 so Gambaryan can get medical help

Last week Judge Nwite said no to letting Gambaryan out on bail again‚ thinking the prison could handle his health needs. Gambaryan had asked to be let go because his health was getting worse and he needed an operation outside the prison

YukiGambaryanʼs wife said back in August that her husbands health had gotten so bad in prison that “it might leave permanent damage and affect his ability to walk“. Shes been trying hard to get him freed

Binance is also in hot water facing tax evasion charges which they say arent true. The company stopped all deals using Nigerias money (naira) after the country cracked down on crypto exchanges - the government thinks these exchanges are feeding a black market for foreign money
