Night-time missile strike hits residential area in north-eastern Ukraine causing multiple deaths and injuries. Local infrastructure damaged leaving thousands without basic services

A devastating missile strike hit the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Sumy on Nov-17 night causing major damage to residential areas. The attack killed eleven people (including two kids) and left eighty-nine others with various injuries

The assault was part of a bigger strike that happened earlier that day when Russia launched over hundred-and-twenty missiles and ninety drones across Ukraine. Volodymyr Artyukh‚ the regions head described the event as “hell“ for local people; the strike left many without power due to infrastructure damage

The attack damaged multiple buildings and cars:

  • 90 apartments got hit
  • 28 vehicles destroyed
  • 2 schools affected
  • 13 other buildings damaged

Emergency teams worked non-stop to help affected residents (more than 400 people needed quick evacuation). The Russian forces used several types of weapons — including high-tech Iskander-M missiles and a guided Kh-59 projectile

The buildingʼs facade got heavily damaged with its windows blown-out‚ while nearby cars caught fire. Local rescue teams and psychologists rushed to help people who lost their homes that night. The incident adds to thousands of civilian deaths since Russia started its full-scale attack on Ukraine about two-and-half years ago
