Locals have expressed their shock over the sudden passing of South African (SA) Rapper and songwriter Costa Titch, he passed away on Saturday. The 27-year-old SA star died after performing at Ultra South Africa music Festival show in Johannesburg. Born Costa Tsobanoglou collapsed and died unexpectedly. Some of his hit songs include; Nkalakatha ‘Big Flexa and’ Activate’. In a trending video that was circulating on social media yesterday, the star is seen falling down on stage and briefly got up. Few seconds later he collapsed again, but couldn’t get up. It was later gathered that he was rushed to the hospital, where he later passed away.

By the time of compiling this report, the cause of his death had not yet been ascertained. On Twitter, many people, including politician Julius Malema and fans, expressed their sadness and shock. The artist was last in the kingdom on September 10 last year which also coincided with his birthday for Rowen’s All White Playboy party. When reached for comment about the sudden passing of the star, he shared with this publication that he was still in shock, but managed to shed light on the relationship he had with the artist. “I am still in disbelief that the music industry has lost yet another icon. Costa Titch was an amazing, humble and amazing public figure who was very talented.
“When he came for my birthday celebration, we really clicked and had an understanding of each other and he gave me a lot of inspirational advice for the industry which stuck with me to this day. I am very honoured to have shared a stage with Costa Titch and I send my deepest condolences to his friends, family and team, may his soul rest in peace,” said Rowen. He relived the day of his party and how great the night was. The party warmed up just after 7pm, and the weather played along as it was warm.

The music set the tone for the night, hitting jam after jam. There was a hot 12-men line-up for the event which included the talented artists the kingdom has to offer, including the birthday boy. Titch danced and grooved, in his set he paid tribute to the late Riky Rick who passed away in February last year. The SA artist showcased his best moves and gave a great performance, leaving the audience in utter amazement. After 40 minutes on stage, the artist sang ‘happy birthday’ for Rowen. He jammed until the clock hit 2am. Costa Titch left his heart on that stage and embedded himself in the hearts of the artists at the show. His death comes a month after AKA’s tragic passing. The 35-year- old rapper was gunned down in Durban at Florida Road in SA on Friday night just after 10pm.
Paramedics
It was gathered that he was dining at Wish Restaurant with his close friends when unknown gunmen shot at them. He was declared dead on the scene by the paramedics. He was scheduled to perform at Yugo Night club for his birthday celebration on the fateful night. Costa Titch began dancing professionally after moving to Johannesburg. He formed a crew with Tumi Tladi and Phantom Steeze to perform dance sessions (New Age Steez dance crew). They competed in the Hip Hop International Dance Competition and came in 14th place. The outstanding dancer is also a gifted rapper. Costa Titch decided to take his rap skills to the next level after receiving positive feedback from his fans.
His style, which incorporates indigenous trap music, has grown in popularity in SA. Costa’s outstanding rap style has also earned him a recent performance with Cassper Nyovest.
After its release, his song ‘Activate’ became a huge hit. His level of influence among other SA artists grew as a result of his use of Zulu lines in his performances. He recently performed at the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards with DJ Cleo, Phantom Steeze, and the Eskhaleni team, capping off the event in grand style.
