A senior Tanzanian opposition official was abducted beaten and left in a forest her party said This incident follows a similar case last month raising concerns about political tensions in the country

In a troubling turn of events‚ a high-ranking member of Tanzanias main opposition party CHADEMA was discovered in a forest after being kidnapped and assaulted. The incident which occurred roughly a month after another party leaders murder‚ has sparked worries about the countrys political climate.

Aisha Machano CHADEMAs womens wing publicity secretary was found by motorcycle riders in a dire state (with severe injuries) The party stated on social media that she had been taken while on official business in Kibiti town located in eastern Tanzania. According to CHADEMA Machanos abductors questioned her about the burning of clothes given by President Samia Suluhu Hassan during a womens day event earlier this year

This occurrence follows the abduction and killing of Ali Kibao another CHADEMA official in early September. His body was found near Dar es Salaam showing signs of beating and acid attacks. The party attempted to organize protests against these incidents but police intervened

Police spokesperson David Misime announced an investigation into Machanos case urging the public to remain calm. Last month President Hassan ordered a probe into Kibaos death and similar cases. These events may affect the presidents image as a reformer – she had been praised for easing restrictions after succeeding John Magufuli about three years ago

Rights activists claim the government is targeting opponents before local elections in December and a national vote next year. The government denies these accusations. As Tanzania approaches these crucial electoral milestones the political landscape appears increasingly fraught with tension
