On a cold Nov 9th Josep Borrell made his way to Kyiv showing that EU wont back down from its promises to Ukraine (this visit happened right after Trumps win in US elections)
The EUʼs top diplomat met with Andrii Sybiha and shared some big-time numbers: EU already gave 122bn euros in help and trained up 60k Ukrainian soldiers; they want to push that number to 75k by winters end. “We need faster deliveries and fewer self-imposed red lines‚“ Borrell said — making it clear he thinks Ukraine should hit military spots inside Russia
The timing of this trip wasnt random: with almost 1000 days of war behind us EU wants to show its still there for Ukraine. Western help is super-important since Russiaʼs army is way bigger than Ukraineʼs
This support remains unwavering; this support is absolutely needed for you to continue defending yourself against Russiaʼs aggression
Volodymyr Zelenskiy quickly said hi to Trump after his win and hopes theyʼll meet soon. Meanwhile EU defense folks will get together next week to talk about more help for Ukraine — both fighting stuff and talk-it-out options. Right now things dont look super-great with Russia taking small steps forward in east Donetsk and holding onto 20% of Ukraineʼs land
