In a post-election development Donald Trump looks at making a new diplomatic post focused on the Russia-Ukraine situation. Four people with inside-info say hes thinking about Richard Grenell - his past intelligence head and Berlin ambassador - to be the special peace-maker
The role doesnt exist yet but its part of Trumps plan to stop the war (which he talked about during his campaign trail). Grenell worked as acting intelligence director and ambassador to Germany in Trumps first term from 17 to 21; he also helped with Serbia-Kosovo talks
At a Bloomberg meeting last summer Grenell shared some interesting views: he wants to make special zones in Ukraine and isnt rushing to get Ukraine into NATO - which matches what many Trump-supporters think. His diplomatic background is good though; he knows Europe well and did some peace-talks before
The final choice isnt made yet and Grenell - who helped Trump win this November - might not even say yes if asked. Its worth noting that he didnt get the Secretary of State job which went to Marco Rubio instead making some of Grenells friends un-happy
