Back in late-2020 Donald Trumpʼs team launched an odd-looking health document just weeks before losing office. The Geneva Consensus Declaration which got support from 33 countries (most with not-so-great womens rights track records) tried to block international abortion rights
The declarations main supporter Valerie Huber keeps pushing it forward working with different countries first-ladies to get more signatures. Even though its just a piece of paper with no real power today its getting ready for a come-back: if Trump wins next years election
There is no international right to abortion; The United Nations has no business interfering in sovereign decisions when it comes to protecting life in the womb
The paper links to a bigger plan called Project-2025 that wants to change how US gives money to other countries. The idea is simple - any group that wants US help must follow anti-abortion rules. This could affect everything from small health clinics to big groups like WHO
A science report showed that Trumps past rules led to really bad results:
- 108‚000 deaths of mothers and kids
- 360‚000 new HIV cases
- Many health clinics shut down
- Less medical help in poor areas
Kamala Harris who supports abortion rights might win instead of Trump. If she does experts think shell try to stop the declaration from getting more power. But if Trump comes back his team already has big plans - theyll tell everyone about them right after election day
