The Washington Posts travel section grabbed major recognition at this years Lowell Thomas Competition earning the competitions most-wanted prizes
The top honor — Gold Award for best newspaper travel coverage went to the team led by deputy features editor Amanda Finnegan who started the By The Way section about 5 years ago. Their winning work showed-off some really cool places: from Alaskaʼs famous fat bears to a weird floating place to eat in Norway
The winning collection had these stand-out stories:
- A trip to see chunky bears during Fat Bear Week
- An insiders take on Glacier National Park
- Updates on Hawaiiʼs Maui recovery
- A look at Norways floating eating spot
The whole thing came together thanks to travel editor Gabe Hiatt; reporters Natalie Compton‚ Andrea Sachs and Hannah Sampson; senior designer Katty Huertas; design chief Christine Ashack; photo pro Lauren Bulbin; copy expert Jamie Zega and lots of free-lance helpers who wrote took pics and made art
