Race-by-race preview and tips for Goulburn on Sunday

By Ray Hickson

October 29, 2022 — 6.00pm

Selections based on a good track.

10. Atmospheric Rock made a nice debut on a heavy track back in July and has trialled strongly in a good quality heat leading into this. Draws well and Pike rides. Looks hard to beat.
Dangers: 15. Associate has a tricky gate but on what he showed in his Rosehill trial recently he has some ability. Check betting but if he has any luck he could go close. 14. Fifo Filly is a locally trained filly on debut and did it very easily winning her only trial here back on October 11. That was on a heavy track but has to be respected. 1. Bombulla Boy started favourite first up in a similar race and was run down after hitting the front and running about a bit in the straight. Wide gate but hard to leave out of the chances.
How to play it: Atmospheric Rock WIN; Trifecta 10/1,14,15/1,14,15). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

6. Poetic Drama chased home what looks a smart type when runner-up at Newcastle third up from a break. She’s had a few chances but back to country level and drawn well she’s a good chance.
Dangers: 1. In De Sun Iwilcome has some mixed form but does tend to race well fresh and hasn’t started since a solid third at Kembla in August. Capable of being in the finish here. 5. Motion Legend has improved with each run and sat on speed and held on to score a maiden win at Gosford. Steps to 1400m now and up in class but is in the mix. 2. The Herald led and was run down when a close third at Wagga over this trip on a heavy track. Honest type and is an each-way chance.
How to play it: Poetic Drama E/W; Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

8. Saveadateforme is a promising type and looked smart scoring at his second start at Kembla just over a week ago. Skips a grade but mile will suit and she has all the upside. Take beating.
Dangers: 5. Tillman is racing very well and fought hard on a heavy track here last time. Firmer track will suit and gets every chance from an inside gate. Has to be considered. 6. Mum’s The Boss is first up since June but has trialled twice and the trip suits fresh. Might be a wet tracker but pay to keep safe. 9. Layla Of Monaco has won one from 20 but is often around the placings. Forgive last time at Canterbury on a heavy 10. Capable of a placing.
How to play it: Saveadateforme WIN; Trifecta 8/5,6,9/5,6,9; Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

1. Sky Diamonds broke a long run of outs with an easy win at Canberra under 60kg just over a week ago. Drawn out this time but rarely runs a bad race and with even luck should be around the mark.
Dangers: 5. Tavi L’Amour has plenty of talent and while racing out of her class she’s a big watch first up. Couple of trials and she was runner-up at Warwick Farm fresh last time in. Respect. 6. Midnight Oasis is in good form at the moment and ready for the step up in class after a popular win at Nowra two weeks ago. Must enter the discussion. 2. Prophet’s Pride started favourite at her first run for the new stable and saluted easily at Bathurst a couple of weeks back. Draw against her but hard to ignore.
How to play it: Sky Diamonds E/W; Odds & Evens: ODDS.

6. Gold Witness was just fair at his first two starts then improved into second at Muswellbrook last time. Raced on the pace there and fought on. Looks one of the main chances.
Dangers: 9. All About Ollie put together a couple of nice placings at the end of last prep and this trip will give him a chance fresh. Is a 13-start maiden so each-way best for him. 14. Jessandi ran well at Bathurst first up then battled on to hold a midfield spot at Kembla. Wide gate no help but firmer track suits and she’s somewhere in the mix. 4. Ruberto is on debut for the Ryan/Alexiou yard after a couple of trials. Not sure where he fits in but not a lot of depth here so keep an eye on betting.
How to play it: Gold Witness WIN; Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

6. Salute Again is first up without an official trial but couldn’t have done any more in two runs last prep for two easy wins. This is a little tougher but has drawn well and any support will be significant.
Dangers: 4. Flying Sultan was in good form before failing down the straight at Flemington in April. Form otherwise is honest and from the ideal draw he has to be considered. 8. Important Product has plenty of ability on his day and this is easier than both his runs this time in. In the mix if he can find his best. 10. Selfie Time easily won a maiden two starts back in a small field then not disgraced up in class at Hawkesbury. Resuming and trialled OK. Wouldn’t surprise if she’s in the finish.
How to play it: Salute Again WIN; Odds & Evens: EVENS.

5. Flying Crazy finds himself in a nice race third up after contesting a Weetwood and Silver Eagle this time in. Stakes winner at the Scone carnival, drawn well and he’ll be hard to hold out if the race pans out for him.
Dangers: 1. Baby Rider is a huge query at his local debut for Bjorn Baker. Plenty to like about his two trials and if the 1400m isn’t too short he could be right in the finish. 7. Turn On The Charm finished strongly to win at Eagle Farm almost a month ago and his previous win was at this trip at Flemington. Only has to hold form to be competitive here. 13. Mensa Missile won well at Rosehill second up then just failed to pick up Zoushack at the Farm. Will be in the first few in running and capable of making his presence felt.
How to play it: Flying Crazy WIN; Trifecta 5/1,7,13/1,7,13; Odds & Evens: ODDS.

7. Almahero was too strong here on a good track a month ago then not disgraced on a heavy 10 in a Highway when he had excuses. Suited here and drawn to get every chance.
Dangers: 4. Rent A Rock was in good form prior to his last start fair effort at Canberra over a mile. Wasn’t beaten far though and entitled to another look on previous form. 10. Radiohead was narrowly beaten at Queanbeyan with a big weight then close up when running on in a Highway at Rosehill a month ago. Usually not too far away and is an each-way chance. 8. Still In Fashion had excuses for his Highway defeat but bounced back when a swooping winner at Wagga over this trip. Has a good record and is not out of this.
How to play it: Almahero WIN; Trifecta 7/4,8,10/4,8,10; Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
