Biden talks Ukraine and Middle East in Berlin meeting

Joe Biden traveled to Berlin for a brief one-day visit‚ meeting with top European leaders to discuss ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East. The US President emphasized the need to continue supporting Ukraine through its challenging winter period.

Biden addressed the recent death of Yahya Sinwar‚ the Hamas leader behind the attack on Israel roughly a year ago. He stated‚ “The death of the Hamas leader Sinwar represents a moment of justice (he had the blood of Americans and Israelis Palestinians and Germans and so many others on his hands)“ The President urged using this event as an opportunity to seek peace in Gaza.

Olaf Scholz‚ the German Chancellor welcomed Biden and echoed his sentiments on pursuing peace in the Middle East. Scholz expressed hope that Sinwars death might lead to a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Hamas hostages.

Steinmeier praised Bidens commitment to transatlantic alliances‚ stating‚ “When you were elected president you restored Europes hope in the transatlantic alliance literally overnight“ He also commended Bidens leadership in strengthening NATO and countering Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.

The trip comes at a time when European leaders are closely watching US elections‚ with concerns about a potential return of Donald Trump and its impact on transatlantic relationships.
