Combs' lawyers push for public naming of accusers in federal case

Sean Combs lawyers have made a bold move in his federal sexual assault and trafficking case. On 10/15/24 they asked the judge to make public the names of his accusers. The defense team says this info is key for getting ready for the trial and making sure Combs gets a fair shake in court.

This request comes as Combs faces serious charges that could put him behind bars for life. Heʼs been accused of running a shady operation to sexually assault and take advantage of women‚ among other crimes. Federal agents nabbed him about a year ago and hes been in custody since then‚ waiting for his day in court next spring.

The hip-hop moguls legal squad argues that keeping the accusers names under wraps is making it tough for them to build a solid defense. They say all the nameless accusations have created a media circus thats hurting Combs reputation big time.

In their motion the lawyers also point fingers at the grand jury for leaking info and the Department of Homeland Security for making false statements about a video showing Combs getting physical with his ex-girlfriend Cassandra Ventura at a hotel in LA (which happened roughly eight years ago).

While Combs team is pushing for transparency a bunch of lawyers are gearing up to file over 100 lawsuits against him for sexual assault. Some of these accusers have already stepped forward‚ but many more might be waiting in the wings.

These swirling allegations have created a hysterical media circus that‚ if left unchecked‚ will irreparably deprive Mr. Combs of a fair trial‚ if they havenʼt already

But dont get your hopes up for this motion to change much according to Heather Cucolo‚ a professor at New York Law School. She thinks its unlikely the judge will make the accusers names public. Courts usually let alleged victims stay anonymous to keep them safe.

The motion could have a ripple effect on the civil cases against Combs though. If accusers names get out in the federal case‚ it might scare off some of the 100-plus people thinking about filing complaints. They might worry about their safety or reputation getting damaged.

Just a couple days ago six new complaints were filed in the Southern District of New York accusing Combs of sexual assault. Two of these accusations are from men who say it happened at Combs fancy White Party in the Hamptons.

For now Combs is still cooling his heels in the Brooklyn detention center. Hes pleaded not guilty and tried to get bail a few times‚ but no luck so far. The trial is set to kick off on May 5th‚ 2024 - thats in about six and a half months from now
