Experienced Handler Injured in Rare Tiger Attack at Australian Theme Park

At Dreamworld, Australia's largest theme park by area, an unexpected incident occurred today involving one of its resident big cats. A 47-year-old experienced animal handler sustained injuries from a tiger bite, prompting an immediate emergency response.
The event unfolded just before 9 a.m., an hour prior to the park's scheduled opening time. The handler, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered serious lacerations and puncture wounds to her arm. Despite the severity of her injuries, she remained in stable condition.
Justin Payne, Queensland Ambulance Service director, reported that the victim appeared pale and unwell upon their arrival. The park's staff had already initiated first aid measures to control the bleeding before the ambulance reached the scene.
Dreamworld, which opened its gates to the public on December 15, 1981, is home to a diverse array of attractions, including the Tiger Island exhibit. This area, established in 1995, houses nine Sumatran and Bengal tigers. These majestic creatures are known for their power and agility, capable of leaping up to 6 meters in length and consuming up to 40 kg of meat in a single meal.
It's worth noting that both Sumatran and Bengal tigers are endangered species. Sumatran tigers are critically endangered, with fewer than 400 remaining in the wild, while Bengal tigers number around 2,500.
