French Icon Alain Delon's Dog to Live On After Actor's Passing

Alain Delon, the renowned French actor and filmmaker, passed away on August 18, 2024, at the age of 88. As preparations for his burial on August 24 at his family residence in Douchy, south of Paris, are underway, a unique concern has been addressed regarding his cherished companion, Loubo.

In a 2018 interview with Paris Match, Delon had expressed a desire to be buried alongside his Belgian Malinois, Loubo, whom he adopted in 2014. This statement sparked worry among animal welfare advocates following the actor's demise.

"I've had 50 dogs in my life, but I have a particular relationship with this one. If I die before him, I'll ask the veterinarian for us to leave together. ... I'd prefer that to knowing that he would let himself die on my tomb amid so much suffering."

In response to these concerns, various animal rights organizations, including France's Society for Protection of Animals, offered to provide Loubo with a new home. The Brigitte Bardot Foundation, a prominent animal welfare group, received numerous inquiries from its members regarding the dog's fate.

Fortunately, the foundation confirmed that Delon's family has decided to allow Loubo to continue living at their Douchy residence. This decision has alleviated the fears of animal lovers across France.

Delon's illustrious career spanned decades, during which he became one of Europe's most prominent actors and screen sex symbols. He achieved critical acclaim for his roles in films such as "Rocco and His Brothers" (1960), "Plein Soleil" (1960), and "The Leopard" (1963). In 1984, he won the César Award for Best Actor for his performance in "Notre histoire."

Throughout his life, Delon demonstrated a multifaceted personality. He was fluent in French, Italian, and English, and had a passion for boxing, even sponsoring several boxers. The actor was also an art enthusiast, collecting rare paintings by masters like Eugène Delacroix and Rembrandt.

In recognition of his contributions to cinema, Delon received numerous accolades, including the Legion of Honour from the French state in 2021 and an honorary Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. His legacy extends beyond acting, as he launched his own perfume brand and sunglasses line in the 1970s.
