Gaza town hit: Dozens dead as Israeli operation continues

In a recent strike on Beit Lahiya‚ a town in northern Gaza many people lost their lives or went missing. The Palestinian health ministry reported that 87 individuals were either killed or trapped under debris‚ with more than 40 suffering injuries. This incident occurred during an extensive Israeli military operation in the region

The Israeli military is looking into the matter‚ but initially suggested that the reported casualty figures might be too high considering the weapons used. They stated that the strike targeted a Hamas location. However rescue efforts are being hampered by communication issues and the ongoing military activities in the area‚ close to the Israel-Gaza border

Victims are still under the rubble and on the road and ambulance teams and civil emergency cant reach them

Palestinian health ministry statement

This attack happened about two weeks after Israel began a major operation near Jabalia‚ which is south of Beit Lahiya. Israeli forces‚ supported by tanks are trying to remove remaining Hamas fighters from the area. The United Nations Middle East peace envoy‚ Tor Wennesland‚ expressed his concern about the situation on social media

The ongoing conflict has led to widespread destruction and displacement in Gaza. Health officials report that:

  • More than 42‚600 Palestinians have died
  • Thousands more are believed to be buried in rubble
  • Most of the 2.3 million population has been forced to leave their homes
  • Only three hospitals in the area are partially functioning

The situation in these remaining medical facilities is dire‚ with severe shortages of:

  • Food
  • Fuel
  • Medical supplies

Despite the death of a Hamas leader last week‚ the fighting in Gaza remains intense. This recent incident highlights the continuing violence‚ even as Israelʼs main focus has shifted to operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon

The conflict began about a year ago‚ following an attack by Hamas-led gunmen on southern Israel. That attack resulted in approximately 1‚200 deaths and the capture of 251 hostages. Since then‚ the situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly‚ with much of the coastal area now in ruins
