Harris and Trump hit Michigan in high-stakes campaign push

On 10/18/24‚ Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are going to Michigan to get votes‚ its a big deal for the election. Harris (shes the Democratic vice president) is starting in Grand Rapids then going to Lansing and Oakland County. Trump (hes the Republican ex-president) is doing stuff in Oakland County too and then a rally in Detroit.

Michigan is super-important – its one of those “blue wall“ states with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin that can decide who wins. Trumpʼs Detroit thing is his first since he said some not-nice stuff about the city last week. He was talking about what would happen if Harris won and said “our whole country will end up being like Detroit“. The city had some tough times but its getting better now.

Harris is having some problems in Michigan: unions (they usually like Democrats) havent all said theyre for her and Arab Americans arent sure about her because of whats happening in Gaza.

Gretchen Whitmer‚ Michiganʼs governor and a Harris campaign co-chair said “People are like ʼOh its so closeʼ And Im like have you not been listening for decades?“ She also said “Michigan is a divided state Thats why we dont write off the reddest of areas on a political map We show up“

Kent County where Harris is starting on Friday used to be more Republican. Trump won it by 3% in 2016 but Joe Biden got it in 2020. Its been voting more Democratic lately

This visit shows how important Michigan is – both candidates are there on the same day trying to get every vote they can
