Harris Campaign Shatters Fundraising Records with $310 Million July Haul

Kamala Harris's presidential campaign has achieved a remarkable financial milestone, raising $310 million in July 2024. This unprecedented sum, more than doubling the $138.7 million raised by her Republican opponent Donald Trump, has propelled the campaign's total funds beyond the $1 billion threshold faster than any previous presidential bid.

The extraordinary fundraising success came in the wake of President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the race and endorse Harris. This strategic move energized the Democratic base, resulting in a surge of small-dollar contributions. Over $200 million poured into the campaign coffers within the first week following Biden's endorsement.

The campaign's financial report reveals a broad base of support, with two-thirds of July's donations coming from first-time contributors. Notably, 94% of the contributions were $200 or less, indicating strong grassroots backing. This influx of funds has positioned the Harris campaign with $377 million in cash on hand, surpassing the Trump campaign's $327 million.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Harris's campaign manager, expressed optimism about the fundraising success:

"This is a history-making haul for a candidate who will make history this November. The tremendous outpouring of support we've seen in just a short time makes clear the Harris coalition is mobilized, growing, and ready to put in the work to defeat Trump this November."

The financial landscape of the 2024 presidential race has been influenced by recent events. An assassination attempt on Trump on July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pennsylvania, was anticipated to boost his campaign contributions. Additionally, Trump's fundraising had previously surged following his conviction on felony charges in late May 2024.

While polls had initially shown Trump leading after Biden's debate performance on June 27, 2024, Harris's entry into the race has altered the dynamics. Recent surveys indicate a closely contested race between the two candidates.

Harris, who made history as the first woman, first Black person, and first person of South Asian descent to become U.S. Vice President, brings a wealth of experience to her presidential bid. Her background as California's Attorney General and U.S. Senator, coupled with her work on key legislative initiatives like the Justice in Policing Act of 2020, has contributed to her broad appeal.
