The family of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an Israeli-American hostage, has confirmed his tragic demise. Goldberg-Polin was among those abducted by Hamas during the October 7, 2023 attack, which marked the deadliest day in Israel's history.

Hersh Goldberg-Polin was attending the Supernova Sukkot Gathering, a music festival celebrating the Jewish harvest festival, when he was taken captive. The event, meant to commemorate his 23rd birthday, turned into a nightmare during the Hamas assault.
President Joe Biden expressed his condolences and outrage, stating that bodies were discovered in a tunnel beneath Rafah, a city in the southern Gaza Strip. The Gaza Strip, a self-governing Palestinian territory, has been under blockade by Israel and Egypt since 2007 and is known for its extensive underground tunnel network.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), recognized as one of the world's most technologically advanced militaries, reported locating several bodies during an operation in Gaza. They are currently working on identification processes.
The October 7 attack resulted in approximately 251 hostages being taken, according to Israeli estimates. While over 100 were freed as part of a negotiated deal, others were either rescued or released separately. It's worth noting that hostage-taking is considered a war crime under international law.
Last month, Goldberg-Polin's parents made an emotional appeal at the Democratic National Convention, an event held every four years. His mother, Rachel Goldberg-Polin, shared the harrowing details of her son's abduction, including the loss of his left arm during the attack.
