New book reveals McConnell's private thoughts on Trump

A new biography of Mitch McConnell thats coming out in a couple weeks is making waves. It shows how the Senate Republican leader really felt about Donald Trump after he lost the election roughly 4 years ago.

The book‚ written by Michael Tackett uses McConnells own words from his diaries and talks with him. It says McConnell called Trump “stupid“ “ill-tempered“ and a “despicable human being“ in private. This is way different from how he acted in public.

Even though McConnell said these harsh things he still backed Trump for president this year. He shook Trumps hand when Trump came to see GOP senators about 4 months ago. McConnell (whos 82) said earlier this year hell stop being GOP leader after the election but stay a senator until 2026.

The book talks about how McConnell felt right after the 2020 election. He was worried Trump trying to change the results would hurt Republicans in Georgia – and it did. Democrats won both Senate seats there. McConnell said privately that people were “counting the days“ until Trump left office.

McConnell said about Trump

McConnell has had doubts about Trump for a long time. The book says that right after Trump won in 2016 McConnell told Joe Biden (who was leaving as vice president) that he thought Trump could be trouble. But McConnell kept quiet in public most of the time.

The book shows how McConnell and Trump fought and made up over and over. After the big tax cut in 2017 McConnell said “All of a sudden Im Trumps new best friend.“ But he blamed Trump when Republicans lost the House in 2018.

Even though McConnell has said all these bad things about Trump he still backs him for president now. The book says its “the price he paid for power.“
