About a year ago Anne Applebaum a well-known writer and history expert got a big prize in Germany. She talked about why we should keep helping Ukraine fight Russia
Applebaum said at the event in Frankfurt that just wanting peace isnt always good. She thinks if Russia loses the war it might stop being so mean — like what happened with Germany after World War II (which ended about 79 years ago)
Many Germans dont like war because of what their country did long ago. They worry about giving weapons to Ukraine. But Applebaum thinks this is wrong She said‚ “Germans shouldnt just avoid fighting; they should help protect freedom“
The prize Applebaum got is worth about 27000 dollars. Its given to people who help make peace real through their work. Last year‚ a writer named Salman Rushdie got it
Some people didnt like what Applebaum said. But most clapped for her. She thinks if we dont help Ukraine Russia might do very bad things there
