Alexander Lukashenko‚ whos been running Belarus for three decades now released another batch of prisoners - this time letting 32 folks walk free from extremism charges. Its the sixth time since mid-summer heʼs done something like this (which is kinda interesting with elections coming up in Jan)
The group had a mix of people: 8 ladies and 24 guys who all said they were sorry and asked for forgiveness. Some of them werent doing so hot health-wise - seventeen had long-term problems one was disabled and nine were over-50. Plus seventeen of them had kids waiting at home
This news fills my heart with joy but we must see the harsh reality
The police are getting ready too; theyre doing some practice-runs this week to keep things under control. Its worth noting that after the last big vote in 2020 about 30‚000 people got picked up during protests - and today more than 1‚200 political prisoners are still locked up
Speaking of prisoners: Maria Kalesnikava - one of the well-known activists finally got to see her dad recently; first time in over a year. Meanwhile Lukashenko keeps getting ready for another term (would be his seventh if he wins) even though lots of people say the last one wasnt exactly fair
