Brazilian congress-people voted to change constitution about life protection from birth to conception Yesterday in Brasilia. Bill would stop all current legal ways to end pregnancy including medical ones

Yesterday in Brasilia a group of law-makers made a big step towards changing brazilʼs health-care rules. The Constitutional committee (where right-wing members are more than others) voted 35-15 to support new life-protection rules

The new bill wants to change Brazilʼs main law to protect life from its start - not from birth but from when baby starts growing in mom. This would make all ways to stop pregnancy illegal even those that doctors can do now for health reasons rape cases or when baby has big problems.

Chris Tonietto from right-wing Liberal Party who wrote this bill thinks its good for protecting not-born kids rights. The next step for this paper is going to another group of law-makers who will look at it when 2025 starts

Its a provocation‚ its shameless and perverse to say that this is a defense of anyones life

Samia Bomfim from Socialism and Liberty Party stated

The changes would make big problems for:

  • Medical research with special cells
  • Ways to help people who cant have kids naturally
  • Doctorʼs work when momʼs health is in danger

The left-wing law-makers say this is bad for womens rights and makes Brazil go back in time instead of forward - but they dont have enough votes to stop it
