Last year a US-France peace deal changed everything on Israel-Lebanon border: both sides agreed to stop fighting at 2am GMT that Wednesday (which was quite early morning local-time)
The deal had some real-world stuff in it - Netanyahuʼs government would move its soldiers away from border areas in about 2 months while Lebanon promised to send like 5000 of its own troops there. Biden spoke about this from White-House saying: “We want this to last forever“
Thousands will join the resistance; disarming the resistance was an Israeli proposal that fell through
The peace-plan (which got approved 10-to-1 by Israelʼs cabinet) makes both armies move different ways: Israeli forces go back while Lebanese soldiers take control of border areas. This whole thing happened cause fighting started when Gaza war kicked off in late-2023
Before everything stopped there were some last-minute hits; Israel did air-strikes on what they called money-places in Lebanon and Hezbollah shot rockets back. A poll showed that 37% of Israeli people liked this deal but 32% didnt want it
The deal includes some extra stuff too - US and France will work with UN peacekeepers to watch whats happening but wont send their own soldiers. Local people hope they can go back home now; many had to leave when their villages got hit during fighting
