Massive flooding hit Tamil Nadu and Puducherry as cyclone Fengal swept through South India last weekend. The storm caused multiple deaths and left thousands of families affected in both India and Sri Lanka

Heavy rains and strong winds from cyclone Fengal caused wide-spread flooding in south India last weekend‚ while killing 19 people across two countries. The storm system moved through Tamil Nadu state and nearby Puducherry bringing record-breaking rainfall (the highest in three decades)

The city of Chennai faced serious problems when flood-waters filled its streets — airport officials had to stop all flights for safety reasons. Local rescue teams used boats to help people stuck in flooded areas; the situation got better by next morning when planes started flying again

The Indian Army stepped-in to help people in Puducherry where the cyclone hit hardest. In nearby Sri Lanka‚ the storm affected more than 138-thousand families and took 16 lives (making it one of the worst natural disasters in recent times)

  • Roads turned into rivers
  • Homes got surrounded by water
  • Public transport stopped working
  • Power supply went down in many areas

The weather office shared data showing that Puducherry got more rain in one day than it usually sees in weeks; this kind of rain hasnt been seen since the mid-90s
