President-elect Trump has picked several people for key national-security jobs which made some long-time GOP experts really worried about US future policies
John Bolton who was part of Trumps first term team points out big issues with these choices: “He cant tell the difference between the national interest and his personal interest.“
The basic problem is that [Trump] canʼt tell the difference between the national interest and his personal interest. As Louis XIV used to say‚ ʼlʼétat‚ cʼest moi.ʼ
The new picks include several interesting choices for top spots:
- Mike Waltz as national-security advisor
- Marco Rubio for state department head
- Tulsi Gabbard as intelligence director
- Matt Gaetz for attorney general
- Elise Stefanik as UN ambassador
These choices are way different from Trumps first-term picks (like Jim Mattis and Mike Pompeo). Bolton thinks some picks are ok but others - not so much. Heʼs super-worried about Gaetz and Gabbard because they might just do whatever Trump wants
Bolton points at three big problems that might happen soon:
* Trade fights with other countries
* Quick end to Ukraine-Russia thing that would hurt NATO
* China problems that could get real bad
The ex-advisor thinks these new picks are just yes-people who dont care about whats good for America — they just want to make Trump happy. Its like that old story about a crazy Roman emperor who made his horse a government worker (which is kinda funny but also super-scary when you think about it)
