In a weekend gathering in Berlin the Alternative for Germany chose Alice Weidel as their chancellor-pick (even though cooperation with other parties seems impossible)
The right-wing party — established about 11 years ago — keeps getting more backing in polls: its showing between 18 and 19 percent support making it second-most-popular after the center-right Christian Democrats. The numbers show a big jump from when AfD first entered politics
Despite the growing support level no other political groups want to form any kind of partnership with AfD which means Weidels path to becoming chancellor is blocked. Still the party continues its push forward in German politics showing up as a strong force in national surveys
