Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign plans to transfer $25 million to support Democratic candidates in state and federal races. The move follows record fundraising and aims to strengthen the party's position across all levels of government.

In a strategic move to bolster Democratic candidates across the nation, Vice President Kamala Harris's campaign and the Democratic National Committee have announced plans to transfer nearly $25 million to support down-ballot contenders in state and federal races this year. This significant financial boost comes on the heels of record-breaking fundraising efforts by the Harris campaign during the summer of 2024.

Jen O'Malley Dillon, the Harris campaign chair, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "Every race this November matters." The campaign's focus extends beyond the presidential contest, aiming to mobilize support for candidates at all levels of government to protect rights, strengthen the middle class, and preserve democratic institutions.

The funds will be distributed among various Democratic committees:

  • $10 million each to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee
  • $2.5 million to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee
  • $1 million each to the Democratic Governors Association and the Democratic Attorneys General Association

This financial strategy reflects the Democrats' commitment to securing majorities in Congress and strengthening their position in state legislatures. Currently, Democrats hold a slim 51-49 majority in the Senate and trail Republicans by eight seats in the House of Representatives.

The Harris campaign's recent fundraising success has significantly bolstered its resources. In mid-August 2024, the campaign announced a $370 million reservation for television and digital advertising set to begin after Labor Day. Moreover, the campaign reported raising an impressive $540 million in just six weeks, enabling the establishment of a robust infrastructure with over 2,000 staff members and 312 offices in key battleground states.

"Like President Joe Biden before, when Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz enter the Oval Office, they'll rely on strong partners from the Hill to state legislatures to move America forward."

DNC Chair Jaime Harrison stated:

The Democrats face both opportunities and challenges in the upcoming elections. While they hope high turnout in traditionally Democratic states could help them reclaim the House, maintaining control of the Senate presents a more formidable task. Republicans are expected to secure a Democratic-held seat in West Virginia, and several Democratic incumbents in states like Ohio and Montana face tough reelection battles.

As the 2024 United States elections approach on November 5, the Harris campaign's strategy underscores the importance of a comprehensive approach to political success. By supporting candidates at all levels of government, from local races to federal contests, the Democrats aim to build a strong foundation for implementing their policy agenda and safeguarding democratic principles across the nation.
