In a show of force Indonesias authorities have started to put in place an extensive security operation in Jakarta. The capital is gearing up for the swearing-in of Prabowo Subianto as the nations new president which is set to happen this Sunday
The security measures‚ which kicked off on 10/18/24 involve the deployment of at least 100000 police and military personnel. This massive force will remain on duty until 10/23/24 covering the period before during and after the inauguration. Military chief Agus Subianto stated that the deployment includes snipers and anti-riot units (highlighting the comprehensive nature of the security arrangements)
At the National Monument complex a drill involving 2000 military personnel took place. The exercise showcased dozens of light tactical vehicles demonstrating the readiness of the security forces. Agus emphasized the need for alertness saying: We need to be alert about possible threats before during and after the inauguration
The security operation isnt limited to ground forces. The Indonesian Air Force is planning to use four F-16 jets to escort aircraft carrying foreign dignitaries attending the event. This highlights the international significance of the inauguration with 36 state leaders expected to attend
While the focus is on security authorities are also preparing for public participation. Police chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo mentioned that hundreds of people are likely to gather in Jakartas streets. These crowds will be there to welcome Prabowo as the new president and bid farewell to outgoing president Joko Widodo known as Jokowi
