A thought-provoking documentary about Christopher Reeve hits UK theaters this fall-season showing how the Superman star became something more meaningful than a comic-book hero
The film named “Super/Man“ brings together never-seen-before home recordings and heart-felt talks with Reeveʼs children: Matthew‚ Alexandra‚ and William. Almost five decades after he first wore the famous cape (and about twenty years since we lost him) the story shows both sunny and cloudy days of his life-journey
“Its a total gift - like spending two hours with our parents again“ says Alexandra Reeve describing her first viewing of the documentary. The film doesnt shy away from showing the whole truth; from his rise to fame in the late-70s to his horse-riding accident in mid-90s that left him paralyzed
The story shows how Reeve - who passed at 52 from heart issues (and his wife Dana who left us year-and-half later at 44) turned their focus to helping others: working non-stop on spinal-cord research and speaking up for people with disabilities
My father and mother placed very little if any weight on fame or public success; they cared most about health and love within family
The movies directors worked hand-in-hand with Reeves kids to paint an honest picture that shows both strengths and set-backs of their dad (who always spoke openly about his medical challenges and hopes for future treatments)
